In computing, storage holds data in an electromagnetic format within a device. Depending on their design, storage devices can retain data for long periods. However, in some cases, storage devices may be able to retain data for only brief periods, such as with temporary storage or cache memory. Storage is usually measured in bits, bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, or terabytes. In addition, storage devices may be designed for a specific type of data, such as text, image, or video.
